Arkansas Association for Food Protection
Welcome to the Arkansas Association of Food Protection (AAFP) website. We are the Arkansas Chapter of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP). The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) represents a broad range of members with a singular focus — protecting the global food supply. Within the association, you will find educators, government officials, scientists, food industry executives and quality control professionals who are involved in all aspects of growing, storing, transporting, processing and preparing all types of foods. Working together, IAFP members, representing more than 50 countries, help the association achieve its mission through networking, educational programs, journals, career opportunities and numerous other resources.
As for the Arkansas Chapter, we are a premier farm-to-fork region with some of the world’s largest companies in food safety, AAFP has the obligation to explore and provide cutting edge research about emerging pathogen and adulterant issues. The Arkansas chapter of AAFP is rare in that we have the world’s largest retailer/grocer, the largest meat company, and leading distribution/refrigerated transport companies headquartered within our state. We have an impressive and diverse group of food processors, produce, poultry, and livestock growers located around the state ranging from produce, fruit, prepared meals, canned foods, frozen foods, juices, wine, meat, sliced meats, etc. We have nationally prominent schools of agriculture and business, as well as the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s nationally recognized Center for Food Safety to support Arkansas’ farm to fork supply chain.

Our Important Mission
It is the mission of the Arkansas Affiliate of the International Association for Food Protection to promote the objectives of IAFP - and further, to provide a local forum to encourage improvement of all areas of food safety and quality; and to increase the knowledge and professional status of our membership in the areas of food safety and quality.
2024 AAFP Annual Conference
We had almost 200 registrations at last October’s AAFP Annual Conference Conferences in 2023, which means we are back at PRE-Covid attendance levels. We want to thank our wonderful sponsors listed below. Now it is time for 2024. The 16th Annual AAFP Conference will be held on Tues-Thurs September 24-26, 2024 at the Fayetteville Town Center on the beautiful Square in Fayetteville. Our State’s food safety influence reaches far beyond Arkansas and the region with products and decisions made by global entities headquartered in our State. With this conference and other workshops, we make an effort to keep our food safety professionals informed of their impact at home and beyond Arkansas. We may have some surprises for next year, so please put us on your calendar and conference list. Please expect more updates soon.
We look forward to seeing you at the next conference or….. one of our surprises. Once again, we want to thank our gracious sponsors below that help make this conference a success.
We appreciate your support,
The Marketing and Advertising Committee
Barbara Smith (chair), Jerri Lynn Pickett, Paula Schwarz, Karen Beers and Brian Umberson
